In a joint project between the school of computing and the school of nursing at the
University of Dundee, PhD student Zahra Zohoor is developing a self-management tool to help survivors of head and neck cancer. The new tools will be web-based and focus on older adults who have completed their primary course of treatment and are trying to cope with the long-term social, physical and emotional side-effects of cancer. The system will provide both expert advice and peer support so that patients can self-manage these side effects. The design of the tool will be based on a structured review of the literature, a patient-centred assessment of needs and consultation with clinical specialists.
